Camp Day 2!

Hello,
Today was the first full day at camp. Students awoke to the sounds of nature (or snoring). Student activities during the day included working on rock and wood crafts, or taking their all-day hike called the All Day Adventure (I went on a hike, which is why you see a lot of photos from that). On the hikes students learn A LOT about the local plant life and wildlife -- this may include careful examination of "scat." (see photo -- you CAN actually learn a lot from it!). We also saw a red-tailed hawk, a coyote and a group of wild turkey, and found a rattlesnake skin shed.
In the evening students may have participated in an outdoor astronomy walk to look at the stars, or a presentation about the Native American cultures from the local area. They were able to practice making a fire by hand!
Tomorrow more students will go on their outdoor adventures or begin their crafts. Others will also start practicing for the Thursday night's talent show.
Almost forgot: Food -- everyone's favorite activity. Breakfast = French toast, fruit, and cereal; Lunch = Chili & cornbread; Dinner = Hamburgers. (Did I mention that every student is responsible for setting the tables and washing dishes for 3 meals? Get 'em to do that at home!)
